This is the 3rd video in a series I’ve been doing about turning the webcomic I post each day into my own paperback book that I can sell on amazon and more!
In the last few videos, I went over how I started the comic, what I used to make the comic, how I chose the sizes for multiple platforms and for print, and the easy way I use google docs and google photos to help me get it ready for printing on amazon at the end of each year.
At this point in the process, I’ve created a cover for the book by downloading a cover template from KDP based on the number of pages in my book.
And I’ve added all the webcomics from the past year that I had backed up in google photos and imported them to google docs.
Now I’m going to start the publishing process on KDP.
Adding info for the KDP book
The first step is adding the title info and author info. Plus a description of the book for the Amazon page.
Also need to add a category which I just chose two subsections under comics nonfiction and general.
Then the next section I add for the book content.
It also gives me the option to let amazon create an ISBN barcode for me. If people already have one that they bought and use for publishing they can put it here instead. I use the free one.
After choosing the dimensions and paper type for the book I uploaded the book itself.
Then I can also upload the cover I created for the book.
After uploading the book I can’t move on to the next section until I launch the book previewer and check that there are no mistakes in this proof.
Cost of printing the book and setting a price
At this point, Amazon can tell me how much it will cost me to make my book.
It also shows me the printing and materials cost. Then I can figure out the royalty I earn based on the price I set for the book itself.
Is it cost-effective to print a book?
Amazon has an equation that they use to determine the cost of a paperback.
Fixed cost + (page count * per page cost) = printing cost.
I don't get it but that's how they determine the price?
How do I market my book?
After creating the book, Amazon lets me create ads in the Amazon marketplace. I can promote my book along with other items on Amazon.
I have an author page on Amazon that will show all the books I have for sale.
